Social Verbal, eye contact and use of signals, communicating when to step out with the ball and when to stay, is somebody dropping into the space you have left in the horizontal channels? |
Opposed SSG, with horizontal channels at the top and bottom of the pitch and goals on the sides
Focuses:
1) To scan shoulder, the first touch into space, body shape when receiving the ball, combining and being creative with teammates, looking to play forwards when possible
2) Players to use "lend pass" to outside players and move away to create space for others - demonstrate (refer to 2 player moves)
3) Recognise the rotation and movement of team structure, dependant on ball position
Q) Scanning shoulder: When? Why? How?
Q) What do we do before, during and after receiving the ball?
The game:
1) Players (red) aim to PLAY THROUGH, from one horizontal channels to the other
2) Players (red) must combine with teammates inside or outside the central box, to play through to the other side
3) No direct passes or switches allowed
4) Players (red) can pass to those in the channels as many times as they like, who cannot be tackles
5) If the other team (blue) win the ball, they score into either of the goals
6) Give goalkeepers the option to play outfield
Progressions/Considerations:
1) Allow players in the horizontal channels to step into play, with a middle player swapping places - communication and keeps intensity through flow
2) Add score system to increase motivation and tempo - each time the ball is played through by reds = a goal, each time the blues score in the goals = a goal
3) Overload the red team if struggling
4) Underload the red team if striving
5) Target players with structure in pos. (position specific movement - set triggers and cues)

Activity 1 (10 mins)
Players to deliver/explain the set up and aims
Focuses:
To scan shoulder, the first touch into space, body shape when receiving the ball
Q) Scanning shoulder: When? Why? How?
Q) What do we do before, during and after receiving the ball?
The game:
1) Players in the middle receive ball from outside players and pass to another player on the outside
2) Players in the middle cannot pass to the same person or the players left and right of the person passing the ball
3) Swap outside players after 60 seconds
Progressions/Considerations:
1) Players on the outside to move around and dribble with the ball - basic action to football action
2) Players in the middle must combine with each other once, to then play outside - increase communication
3) Players in the middle must combine with an OPPOSITE bib colour player - increase decision making
4) Increase/decrease area size - alter space to increase outcomes
5) Attempt to play in one touch if possible - focus on body shape and receiving/passing angles
6) Add score system to increase motivation and tempo - how many passes can you make in a set time?
