Knock The Block
'Knock the Block':
"Knock the Block" is a fun drill designed to improve passing accuracy for young players.
Setup:
The setup involves a ball placed atop a cone, centrally positioned between two players standing 5-10 meters away on either end.
Objective:
Players take turns passing a second ball with the aim of knocking the ball off the cone. Successful attempts score 1 point.
Progressions and Regressions:
The drill offers flexibility with progressions and regressions: adjusting the distance to the central ball or, for added challenge, awarding 2 points if the ball rolls over the opposing end line after being knocked off, encouraging powerful passing.
Game Variations:
This drill can be adapted for competitive play, either player vs player or pair vs pair settings.
Duration:
The game can be structured to play for a certain duration or until a specific point target is reached.
Coaching points:
- Standing foot to point at direction of central ball
- Instep of the passing foot to be used mostly (some sessions you may train outside of the foot too)
- Can tell players to hold foot in the air after they pass for 2 seconds if their action is not working
