PART 4- SMALL GROUP PLAY. SHOOTING, LAY OFFS, CROSSING AND FINISING

The set up:

  • Place three cones around the 18 yard box. Have the players positioned in 3 lines, even numbers distributed across the 3 cones.
  • Place a goalkeeper in the goal.
  • Each player in the line should have a ball each.
  • There are three positions 1) Dribble and shoot. 2)  Pass and receive a lay off and shoot. 3) Pass and receive a lay off to cross the ball.
How it works:
  • The player on #1 dribbles and shoots at goal. He then turns to receive a pass from the player at #2.
  • The player at position 2 then has a first time shot from the lay off from the player at  #1.
  • After player 2 shoots, they then turn and receive the ball from the player at #3.
  • Player 2 passes the ball to a position where player #3 can cross the ball in.
  • As player 3 runs to cross the ball, players #1 and #2 run into the box and finish the ball with a first time shot from the cross.
  • Once an outcome is reached, #1 moves to #2, #2 moves to #3 and #3 moves to #1. The next player on position #1 starts the process again.
