I. Warm-Up (15 mins)

Organization :

Goalkeeper starts in the centre of the goal.

3 servers are placed in front of the goal with a small gate to aim for in front of them.

The gate helps for the goalkeeper to know what angle he is at and his position in the goal.

The coach shouts either 1, 2 or 3 and the GK has to get set between the gate and make the save.

Coaching Points :

- Starting position (square to feeder).

- Follow ball (Ball line and Angle arc).

- Judge and asses the flight of the ball (hold then go).

- Make correct save (dive, basket catch, contour catch, etc).

Progression:

Take away the gates so the goalkeeper has to know exactly where they are in the goal area.

II. Main Part : Small-Sided Activity (25 mins)

Instructions :

Goalkeeper starts facing Server 1 between the flexi pole goal.

Server 2 is at the front of the goal with 6 footballs placed in an arc.

Server 1 continues to volley the soccer ball toward the GK to make W catches at face height. At any time, Server 2 can shout "Yes" meaning the GK has to spin, face play, and defend the goal from a strike from Server 2. Server 2 can place himself at any of the six balls to serve in a shot.

This means the goallkeeper has to find the server and adjust his positioning to suit that shot coming in.

Coaching Points :

- Starting position (square to feeder).

- Follow ball (Ball line and Angle arc).

- Judge and asses the flight of the ball (hold then go).

- Make correct save (dive, basket catch, contour catch, etc).

Progressions :

Alter the serve of Server 1 (e.g passing, dive left/right, high ball, scoops).

Change the distance of the footballs and the angle of them (e.g make footballs A and F even wider).

III. Main Part : Expanded Activity (30 mins)

Instructions :

Goalkeeper starts in the goal with two box's marked by the flexi poles just outside the area.

Inside the two box's a 2 v 1 takes place. Only one striker can break into the box and must shoot inside the shaded blue area. The defender can only defend between the flexi poles. One side goes and then the next.

If the defenders win back the ball they can attack the mini goal.

Coaching Points

- Starting position (square to feeder).

- Follow ball (Ball line and Angle arc).

- Judge and asses the flight of the ball (hold then go).

- Make correct save (dive, basket catch, contour catch, etc).

Progressions :

Change to a 4v2 and a striker from either side can break into the shaded area meaning the goalkeeper doesn't know what channel it will come from.
