Introduce sweep (15 mins)

Quick Warm-up with stick and ball (me and my ball)

Reminder about focus points for push pass: hands apart on the stick, left foot forward etc

Go into pairs and push pass over about 5m and then get the players to move and pass and receive

After 3-5 minutes bring in to discuss sweep pass basics then show with 1 knee on the ground

Pairs practice about 10m apart on one knee for 3 minutes

Coaches to help with basics (please watch the video to get coaching guidelines)

Long Bangers (20 mins)

Long Bangers

Combination of volleyball and tennis with focus on sweeping pace and accuracy as well as stopping skills and strategising

Teams have 4 touches of the ball in their half with the aim of getting the ball across the opponents backline

Play is started by a server from the service line (mark with a cone) who sweeps the ball across to the opposite half

Players may only touch the ball once in a play, either to stop the ball, pass the ball to "set" a team mate or sweep pass the ball into the other half

The ball may not lift higher than ankle-height

A team gains a point if the defending team play the ball off the side of the pitch in their half

A team gains 2 points if the ball stops dead in the opponents half before a player plays it

A team gains 3 points if they get the ball over the defending team's back line

If the ball goes out the sideline of the opponent's half, the team takes a sideline free hit and the ball can go directly back over the "net" or can be played to a team mate

Encourage lots of movement to anticipate ball into space, get to the ball before it stops dead etc
