THE SESSION:
Attacking Aerial Balls
- Players begin divided in to three teams of 4.
- Green team has a ball each on the outside of the square, reds play inside and blacks are passive until rotation.
- Greens serve the ball in the air, for red players to attack and return; volleys or headers.
- As soon as pass is returned, they must look for another ball from a different Green player.
- Run for 30 seconds at a time, then rotate groups.
PROGRESSIONS:
- Progression 2 (pictured above) Players now receive from a white player and look to redirect clearance to a green player.
- Headers only
KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:
- No bounce!
- Step to the ball, attacking and not waiting for ball to arrive
- Application of correct techniques
- Up and out
- Get "outside of the line" when redirecting

THE SESSION:
- Defending corners the Jurgen Klopp way
- 3 best headers of the ball zonal mark shaded area of the pitch (usually central defenders/tallest players - VVD, Gomez, Fabinho)
- 4 players in a line around penalty area (green line) man mark (MM)/act as blockers (Milner, Mane, Wijnaldum, Firmino)
- Smaller players defend posts (usually full backs - Robertson, TAA)
- One player remains up field as an outlet (Salah)
- Player/Coach crosses ball in and blue players try to attack and score
- Blockers/MM attempt to disrupt attacking players from getting a run on the ball
- Gives stronger headers of the ball more space to clear the ball
- Players in shaded area mark their zone and attack the ball if it enters their zone
- If blue team scores they gain 5 points (2 points for chance missed)
- If they don't touch the ball red team gains a point
PROGRESSIONS:
- If red team wins the ball they can play back out to crosser who makes counter attacking run down the wing towards other goal
- Players must get the ball out wide to crosser who puts in cross first time or after dribbling
- Only 2 players can join the attacking outlet
KEY MESSAGES/POINTS:
- Communication
- Confidence in aerial ability
- Use of body when blocking or competing in the air
- Fast break away on the counter attack
- Organisation. Who marks who?
