Set Up: Use 3/4 of a pitch or side of one half pitch. Attacking team play 2-2-3 defensive team play 4-3-1 with GK's for both team. All balls in attacking team goal were play will start.
Format: Attackers look to play out from GK through the thirds & attempt to score in opposite goal. Defensive team look to drop a low block & defend to frustrate attackers & win the ball. Once ball won can they transition quickly & play into attacker & support to create counter attacking opportunities. Team in possession can move through the thirds but must always have at least 1 player in each zone.
Key points: Defensive unit as a low block, striker drop of towards midfield line, midfield 3 in a straight line centrally & compact defend goal side of attacking midfield. Defensive line together compact and attackers in front.
Closest to ball apply pressure & force sideways or back, support players stop passing lanes forward compactness as a unit.
Awareness, communication & work together to frustrate attackers and force them to make mistakes.
Once ball is won can we secure it with the first pass, recognise space to move forward and build the attack.
Forward runs to support the ball going forward to capitalise on the transition and get numbers forward to support the attack & create overloads.
