Possesion Drill 1 (20 mins)
What you need:
4 cones
1 ball
If possible, 12 players per group. If not adjust the drill accordingly.
Start this possession drill by dividing both teams evenly. Have two players from one team step outside and stand by a cone. That cone will be the start point for those two players, as they are going to be running two times around the grid. While those two players are running around the grid, the other team with more players are going to be possessing the ball keeping track on how many passes they can complete against the other team that are going to be two players down. Once the two players that have been running around are done running two times around the grid they each call someone new from their team to run around the grid two times and they now join their team in pressuring the team that is possessing. After all players from one team run around the grid two time. It will be the other teams turn to do the same thing. The team that gets the least passes will have to do a punishment drill. Ex Running, push ups, sit-ups, etc.
-If ball goes out have the team who is possessing hurry up and play it back in.
-If the team with less player who is pressuring wins the ball, they can try to pass to each other to kill time.
Coaches Focus Points:
-Make sure players who are running outside the grid are running fast. The faster they get back, the faster they can call the next set of players on their team to run around.
-Make sure the team who is possessing the ball is keeping track on how many passes the do because the other team will than have a chance to do the same.
-Make sure players are not just standing around.
-Make sure players are open using the whole grid as space.
-Make sure players are pressuring the players who are trying to posses.
Increase difficulty of this drill:
-limit touches to 3, 2, than 1 touch.
-increase overall intensity of drill in every aspect. faster runs, harder pressure.
