4v1 Tennis Ball Rondo (10 mins)

Intervals:

45 sec work + 15 sec rest x 12 reps = 12 min

Setup:

8x8 grid.

Groups of 6.

Extra balls around field.

Activity:

Rules:

MUST receive ball with foot that is farthest from passer (open body position).

MUST create angle by sliding to nearest cone.

MUST play 2 touch.

MUST say name of who you are passing to.

Progression:  External players toss the tennis ball as they play keep away.

Defender stays in for 45 seconds. Attackers try to get 15+ passes.

Coaching Points:

+ Pace of pass --> we need to get used to hard passes in tight situations

+ Drawing defender in to open up space for others

Intervals:

60 seconds work + 30 seconds rest x 6 games = 10 min

Setup:

Three 10x10 grids side byside

teams of 4

Activity:

Attacking team must complete 3 passes in grid before trying to switch play through central zone where it's 2v1.

Pass into far zone teammate MUST come from central grid.

1 point for each time successfully get ball from wide grid to wide grid AND back.

Coaching Points:

~ Constant support of ball in 3v1 to find space to play forward

~ Adding players from other lines to create overloads

~ On switch, using the drive at defender to release passing options

Setup:

Same 3v1 setup as previous

Activity:

3v1 in wide zone; After 4 passes, they can switch to far zone after 2v1 in central zone.

Far player's goal is then to play a through-ball (switch and slice) to winger.

Coaching Points:

+ Intro "switch and slice"

+ Body shape of Center Mid (see the ball and the next pass/"target")

+ Timing of winger's run

+ Opposite movement of the winger's run

4 min work + 1 min rest x 8 reps = 40 min

Setup:

40x60 grid

2 teams of 6 plus 2 neutrals (wingers)

Activity:

May only have 3 defenders in a given zone (progress to 4).

Attacking team can ONLY transfer zones on the dribble.

Coaching points:

+ How can we isolate a player? (overload one side)

+ Does the free player always have to be forward?

+ Switch and slice moments
