Each end zone is 2 defenders v 1 attacker, and the central area is 2v2 matched up with midfielders.
Encourage the midfielders to work as a pair and try and combine to play forwards. Combinations could include; 1-2/wall pass, dummy, 1 high and 1 to the ball or even clearing the midfield so the defenders can play straight through. The lone attacker should be always moving, looking to receive the ball at feet. If successful try playing the opposite way back through the midfield.
Variations:
As a progression allow the midfielders to drive from their central zone to the attacking end zone
Allow defenders to join in wide areas for a set amount of time
Allow centre forwards to “drop in” to receive and midfielder to make a forward run
Add a goal at one end

Player A at the first corner passes to one of the two neutrals in the centre of the square. He then combines with the other neutral who passes back to player A who has moved off his corner cone. Player A then makes a longer pass to player B who passes to one of the neutral players – they combine and pass back to player B. He passes on to C who combines with the neutrals and then passes to D. It continues in this way until it gets back to A.
The players in the centre must stay close together so they can combine quickly moving play around the area. Control, passing and receiving are all vital techniques.
