Topic - Heading (Switching Play)
Technical Practice
Players are set up in two teams of 6 players (Reds & Yellows)
1.Red team position themselves around outside of the circle evenly with a ball each. Yellow team are waiting in the circle
2.Once coach starts, the yellow team begin searching out a free red player on the outside calling for a header
3.Yellow player then heads ball back to red player
4.The player then turns and burst away serching out another header from free red player
5.Reds and Yellows swap roles every 2 minutes.
Ensure good communication between players and that tempo is high within the circle.
Progressions
1.Players perform one defensive header and then one attacking before bursting away
2.Distance between players bigger to increase difficulty of an accurate harder.
Mechanics
1.Eyes open
2.Head ball using forehead
3.Use neck and back muscles for power
4.Arms out for balance
5.Stay on toes

Skill Practice
Players now set up as shown, with two yellows and two reds on outside of area. 4v4 within the area.
1.Teams in middle jockey for position
2.Balls are served in from outside players and teams in the middle look to win the header.
3.Teams score a point for headering ball to outside player other than person who serves in. 2 points if attacking header bounce before server gathers ball.
4.If ball drops to floor teams battle for possession and look to pass ball back to outside player, before receiving ball back in air
5.Defending players can look to score 3 points by performing defensive header that leaves area and isnt directly to server.
6.Swap players on outside every 3 minutes
Progressions
1.Have players swap when headered to outside player
2.Players can volley pass to team member for header
Mechanics (To be shared during interventions or during progressions)
5.Head top to middle of ball (Attacking)
6.Head middle to bottom of ball (Defending)
7.Go for accuracy (Attacking)
8.Go for height and distance (Defending)

6v6 with GK's
Play as normal, however to score a goal player must dribble ball in the red coned square before playing in an attacker to score.
1 point for getting in to square
2 points for recieving pass that switches point of attack
2 points for a goal
5 points for a goal scored with head
5 extra points if play is switched when scoring goal

2.Blue flat discs used inside the main square to make 20m wide circle for technical practice
3.Shaded area marked using yellow cones 25m x 20m for technical
4.For final SSG, 4 small boxes are marked out using red cones in each corner
5.Goals either end of main area
6.Spare balls around practice for quick restarts
