Set UP:
Att v Def. Game always starts with the LB or RB. Attacking need to score a goal. Def team must work the ball over the half way line.
Variations - RW or LW pull really wide for the FB makes an UNDERLAPPING run forward.
Progressions - 3 touch
Coaching Points:
- Wingers commit the opposition fullback, use the run for a cross as a decoy or make the pass, decision making.
- FB time the run, stay onside and receive at pace, look for triggers. EG, has the defender committed? Has the RW moved out?
- Wingers get close to ST for support, creating space for FB.
- CM - movement to receive, drop deep.
- COMMS, hold, release. call the overlap etc.
Problem/Solutions
Problem, no space or opportunity for a cross. Solution, switch point of attack. Be patient.
Rewards - any goal from overlapping run is worth 3 goals.
Restrict - must be first time cross.

Set up
2 groups of 5 players. Passing pattern on both sides of field.
Description
Passing pattern. RB passes to CM and makes over lapping run. CM passes to RW. RW receives with an open body and passes to RB. RB crosses and GK receives.
RB becomes CM, CM becomes RM. RW goes to back of cue.
Coaching Points
- Pass quality, firm pass into feet. Use the pace of. the pass to set yourself for next pass.
- Movement off marker to receive.
- RM moves inside to create space from RB to overlap.
- Timing of run, meet the forward pass at full pace.
Problems/Solutions
Problem, waiting for pass after overlapping run. Solution, look at how the play is going, be patient and time the run.
Problem, missed passes. Solution, COMMUNICATE. Eye contact, verbal and visual cues.
