Set-up -
Split into 2 teams. One team is situated around the outside of thesquare with a ball each. These are the servers. The other team stands inside the square without a ball. Theseplayers run to any server and receive a thrown ball that they mustcontrol and pass back to the same server.
Make it easier -
For variation, ask the server to throw the ball to specific bodyparts. You can also ask them to vary the service so that playershave to be alert to which part of the body is best to control theball.
Make it more challenging -
Develop this exercise by asking the server to step into the gridafter they have served their ball and make it a 1v1 to the opposite end line, a point for the player that stops the ball on the opposite end line.

PURPOSE -
To develop the technique of aerial control.
ORGANIZATION -
Set up mini 2-yard goals around the area you are working in. Put the group into pairs, one ball per pair. One partner throws the ball up in the air and the teammate must control the ball in the direction of the nearest goal and then dribble through the goal. Rotate after each turn, so that both partners practice their control. Progress this exercise by asking players to perform ‘a move’ e.g.‘Zidane turn’ or ‘Maradona’ as they move through the goal.
COACHING POINTS -
Variation: Develop better all-round players with more complete control by insisting on the right foot, left foot, and different body parts all being used. Ask the players to control the ball at an angle towards the goal. Teach your players to develop their first touch through “practice-practice-practice”.
