Football/Soccer Session (Moderate): Penetrating a Defensive High Line

Objective is to seek out space against a defensive unit playing high line.

Blues are attacking. Reds are defending.

Play starts in midfield, ideally an overload of 3v2/2v1 depending on numbers.

After 3 successful passes by blues, the player with the ball must decide the best pass to break the high line. This player may then join the attack creating a 4v4.

One coach keeps the defensive line high and watches for offside. Other coach feeds balls into the midfield players.

If defenders win the ball, they must play to one of the small goals. Play begins again by coach feeding another ball in to midfielders.

Looking for:

Decision making from the midfielder playing the ball through.

Correct weight of passes

Timing of runs

Communication - verbal or implied

Once initial pass is made, can a successful cross/shot be played? Where do other attackers position themselves to score?
