What:

  • the players being able to play the ball wide either from the back or once in possession in the middle

Where:

  • Opposition teams attacking third

intro (15 mins)

Organization:

  • 30 X 30 yard box 
  • soccer balls
  • two teams 

Instructions:

  • players must find a "split ball" or pass in between opposition player in order to get a point 
  • timed rounds best 3 out of 5 wins the intro game.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • CP 1: use the inside of the foot for passing 
  • CP 1: weight of the pass
  • Q1: how can you gaps quicker? ANS: shoulder checking and constantly scanning 

Progressions:

  • P1: add another soccer ball to each team
  • P2: allow players to block the angle of the passes to stop points from being scored.

main activity/ End zone game (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 30 X 30 yard box 
  • end zones can be 6-10 yard width with 30 yards width
  • two goals 

Instructions:

  • players will receives a point if their team mate receives a pass into the End zone 
  • players will receive another point if the can finish the ball in the goal after they receive it if the ball exits the end zone the must start over for the opportunity to score into the goal but will get another point.
  • team with most points wins
  • Timed rounds best 3 out of 5.

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • Q1: what type of runs can we make in the end zone if we are blocked? ANS: a slanted run or back peddling to receive in open space.
  • CP 1: weight of the pass to get it from once side to another must be a stronger pass
  • CP2: if playing out of the back which midfielder can we find most open.

Progressions:

  • P1: add a defender to stay in the end zone 

Regressions:

  • R1: Allow the teams to " steal" the ball after crossing the blue half way cones

Conditioned game (20 mins)

Organization:

  • 30 X 30 yard box
  • 10 yards length channels width flat markers 
  • two goals 

Instructions:

  • Players must get the ball wide into the channels at-least once in their attack to allow the players to score  
  • Out of bounds ends with goal kick out of bounds sidelines throw ins
  • timed rounds team with the most points win

Coaching Points/Questions:

  • CP1: Once we get the ball into the channel, find the middle player or go to goal.
  • Q1: when playing out of the back what players do we want to find. ANS: the wide defenders then midfielders 

Progressions:

  • P1: Add defenders to stay in each channel 

Regressions:

  • R1: defenders cannot wait in the the channels until a player receives it 
  • R2: players get a point every the successfully find a player in the channel
