Warm Up (10 mins)

Organisation

  • In this warm up exercise goalkeepers will start with on the goalkeepers defensive right side on the floor with a medicine ball. They will look to throw this from a diving save starting position to the 2nd goalkeeper(in yellow). This will be to work on strength & mainly focus on core muscles & use strength from the abdominal area to power through the throwing motion. Then the goalkeeper will look to get on her feet to get across  the goal to leap over the hurdle for a diving save. This will work on the agility of the goalkeeper to get on her feet then her footwork to get across her goal & then timing to dive over the hurdle & then diving technique to get across the goal. This will be worked upon on both sides to work on all these techniques on each respective side for both goalkeepers. The rest to work periods will be balanced as they will alternate between receiving (as on this diagram the yellow goalkeeper is) & being in the goal.

Footwork / Shot Stopping (20 mins)

Organisation

  • Into this next phase similar set up to previous slide where goalkeepers swap between serving/receiving. Goalkeeper will start on their defensive left side & race across the goal for a tipped one handed save , they will then get up & get back across to the side they started from for a low diving save. To keep the session flowing the goalkeepers will work in sets of 10 to keep the session flowing rather than stop start & then similarly to the previous slide the goalkeepers will work off the same on the opposite side.

  • Goalkeeper will come out claim the cross on the first delivery before then getting back onto their line to then get over to the near post set on the post & receive a cutback. Similar to the previous exercise the goalkeepers will work on sets to keep the session flowing & then alternate.
