Description

Start-up for grassroots keepers. Each session will initially be restricted to 30mins with 3 keepers. Keepers stay on their coloured cone until last session when we will rotate.

CV-19 arrival and Set-up (5 mins)

Set-Up and

Upon arrival each child and parent will be given a colour and they will go to that area to wait for further instructions and also to leave their equipment. Parents to remain in this area. Coach to then stay in yellow area and explain the sessions.

CV-19 GK warm-up (5 mins)

Physical

Set up three 2m squares with different coloured cones

Keepers start in centre, coach calls out 2 different colour combinations. Quick movement to touch cones and then burst speed to hold a blocking position in front of cone.

Jog back to do again - 5 reps

Increase calling out of number of cones to get keepers to stay focussed.

Focus points - stay on balls of feet in set position, face forward, quick feet. Explode off to show blocking position.

Blocking technique (10 mins)

Coach starts with ball pass to GK, pass back. GK then comes to coach to block a first time shot.

1. Coach starts with ball. Passes infront of play 2 who dribbles the ball towards the goal (2).

3. Coach moves towards penalty spot and recieves a pull back from winger. shoots first time (side foot).

Keeeper starts in centre of goal and follows ball out wide to cover the shot on the angle. When winger pulls the ball back they move quickly to cover the shot from the coach.

Keeper should follow the ball and stay to cover a potential shot to near post. they move quickly as soon as ball is pulled back. Move straight and smother first time shot. Get into block position or dive to smother shot.

Repeat from both sides.

Transition: winger can shoot rather than pull back.

If only one keeper, then use bounce boards to simulate pull back. Keeper stays on near post until ball leaves rebounder.

quick fire.

5 balls in a line, Keeper in set position.

Coach plays each ball low on ground alternating sides.

Keeper to make saves and quick recovery to next position.

As coach moves forward keeper needs to recover quickly and start to spread/block for the closer saves.
