I have identified a need to improve playing out from the back in tight areas under pressure tso we can play through the thirds in possesion. This will be our focus in training for the next few weeks, along with pushing up and switching play.

Knock over the coconuts 2
Both teams start in the square15m x 15m and play possesion. Once a team has completed 3 passes they can shoot at a cone to knock the cone over/knock the ball off the top. One team shoots at the yellow cones, the other at the orange cones. You can't see in the picture but there are yellow and orange cones alternately on both sides to encourage both teams to use all space in the square. Once all yellows or all orange cones have been hit by that team, they are the winners.

Playing out from the back Practice
Equipment
Use half 9v9 pitch (or reduce size if numbers are lower). balls, bibs, 2 extra goals/poles, cones/discs
Aim
set up attack V defence with an overload of defending team. Defending team also have a goalkeeper.
Create a retreat line for the attacking teamapprox 5 yards infront of 2 goals nearl halfway line. the defending team set up asp per start of a match. The practice starts by the coach kicking a ball deep into the defending teams half. Once the kick takes place the attacking team can press. The attacking team attack the one goal and the defending team can score in either of the two smaller goals. If the coach notices a noticeable switch in play from either team then the goal is worth double. when the ball goes out of play or dead the attackers retreat to the retreat line and the coach kicks the ball again to repeat the practice. After 5 mins switch attackers and defenders (giving extra player to reds). After both teams have played, give any pointers during drinks break and repeat 5mins each again.
Progression
Give extra player/players to attacking team to make harder or move retreat line forward.
Only allow defending team to score once they have moved pass the retreat line. The defending team have to complete a certain number of passes before they can shoot.
Key points
Encourage scanning, body shape, movement off the ball, good decision making.

requirements:
Half 9v9 pitch with 2 small goals/poles on halfway line as shown.
1 goalkeeper, 6 players on each team (min 4 on each team)
Objective:
attacking team blue attack main goal, defending team red attack 2 small goals.
Each Phase starts with a goal kick. Each team tries to score.
Give no coaching as assess. count number of times in 5 mins the defending team loose the ball easily from goal kicks. swap over teams and do the same. stop for drinks and ask thoughts on how to stop getting boxed in. teach the concept of splitting out wide /dropping off and keeper taking kicks centrally. swap over again and count loses of possesion to measure improvement. after 5 mins, swap over.

Knock over the Coconuts (arrival activity) (10 mins)
Knock over the 'coconuts' before the other team.
Place balls on cones. Can place one team in bibs/scrimmage vests.
Players dribble past the flag and shoot at target. As soon as ball is shot, the next player in line goes.
