Goals of the session:
1. To improve our ability to play out from the back using controlled possession against a high pressing oppositions.
2. To improve our ability to build out from the back and play through the thirds as safely as possible so we can get ourselves into the final 3rd.
3. To master different ways of playing out from the back i.e. around, through and over pressure.
4. To score goals.

Organization:
Set up as shown.
Instructions:
- The exercise starts with the Red team GK playing into one of the CBs, once the CB takes his first touch, the game becomes live.
- Reds are looking to break opposition (Blues) pressure and looking to dribble into the scoring zone score one point.
- If the Reds are successful in dribbling into the scoring zone, the Blues GK quickly play into a Blue player inside the transition zone to start a counter attack for the Blues who are looking to score in the main goal.
- The Red player that scores in the scoring zone moves to the transition zone while the first Red player in the transition zone becomes a recovering defender once blues counter attack.
- If the Blues win possession in the playing area, they quickly head for goal to score.
- Once a goal is scored by the blues or the ball goes out of play, the play will restart with the Reds GK.
- The team swap roles on coach's call for them to fully experience different roles and responsibilities in the session.
Coaching Points (When playing out):
- Shape when in possession i.e. width and depth.
- Provide support for the player on the ball.
- Recycle when necessary.
- GK provides support underneath and looks to receive the ball.
- Switching play when possible.
- Quick transition to defending upon scoring.
Coaching Points (When pressing):
-The closest player to the ball starts the press i.e. arch run to force play to one side and cut off back pass.
- Second closest player to the ball provides cover and look to double press to win back possession.
- Upon winning possession, look to combine quickly to finish on goal while opposition are unbalance.
- Mentality to press as a group.
- Recovery runs once press is broken to recover back into a compact position.
Regression:
- 5v3 to play out.

Instructions:
- Both teams look to play out from the back when in possession and also look to press aggressively when out of possession.
- The exercise starts with the Red team GK playing into one of the CBs, once the CB takes his first touch, the game becomes live.
- Reds are looking to break opposition (Blues) pressure and looking to connect with one of the (White) neutrals / full backs before looking to score in the opposition goal.
- If the Reds are successful in scoring, the Blues GK quickly look to restart play and look to play out from the back while the reds becomes the pressing team upon scoring.
- Whenever the team out of possession wins the ball back, they must look to counter attack quickly while opposition are unbalanced.
- Once a goal is score or the ball goes out of play, the play will restart with the GK of the team that should have possession.
- Neutrals / full backs (Whites) are placed outside of the playing area in the center as shown.
- Neutrals / full backs can be tackled upon receiving possession.
- Neutrals / full backs can apply immediate pressure on the ball if they directly give possession away.
- Only the neutral / full back that's in possession is allowed to come inside and play.
Coaching Points (When playing out):
- Previous coaching points when applicable.
- Controlled possession when looking to playing out from the back.
- Recognizing when to play through pressure or around.
- Full back / neutral should drive into space and quickly look to combine with the team in possession.
Coaching Points (When pressing):
- Previous coaching points when applicable.
- Pressure the player with the ball, cover and balance.
- Make it compact both vertically and horizontally.
- Always press in the identified situations.

- For a goal to count, all the players of the scoring team must be inside opposition half.

Technical Development
Organization:
Set up as shown.
Instructions:
- Both teams play at the same time in opposite directions.
- The ball starts with GK who plays out to one of the center backs.
- CBs must look to play out through FBs or CMs.
- Full backs or center midfielders can dribble across into the other half but their first touch must take them through the gate.
- Full backs can move into opposite half but must travel through the gate.
- Players can pass across half way line but it must be played on 1 touch.
- Once the ball is in the opposite half, team mates can join (ensure defensive balance) and pass to opposite GK.
- Pass into opposite GK must be played on 1 touch.
- Players get back into shape and start again as soon as the ball is being played into opposite GK.
Coaching Points:
- Look to receive the ball in a side-on position.
- If you receive the ball facing backwards, quickly play to someone facing forward.
- Look for furthest forward pass that is safe to play.
- Be in a position to support player in possession in-front or behind.
- Ensure defensive balance.
- Communication i.e. turn, hold set, drive e.t.c.
Progression:
- Limited touches.
- The ball must be circulated and touched by every player before crossing the halfway line.
