Warm Up: Shooting (10 mins)

Method: Shooting Warm up

  • Group A perform fast feet through the ladder and then finish into the mini goal
  • Group B shuffle in between the cones and then finish into the mini goal
  • Group C dribble to the mannequin and perform a skill to beat it such as step over, drop the shoulder etc and then finish into the mini goal.
  • Move to the group on your right side after each go (Group A goes to Group B, Group B goes to Group C and Group C goes to Group A)

  • Follow through the ball
  • Up on the toes
  • Use skills you will actually use in a real game
  • Composure

2 vs 1 into 3 vs 2 (15 mins)

Method: 2 vs 1 into 3 vs 2

  • 2 blue players take on 1 red player and try and score
  • Whenever that play breaks down or a goal is scored the red team then go on the attack in a 3 vs 2

Coaching Points:

  • Attack at match speed
  • Use the overload by creating space
  • Keep changing up the types of run to confuse the defender 
  • On the toes ready for the transition from attack to defend or defend to attack

Making use of different shooting Techniques (15 mins)

Method: Shooting

  • Player 1 and 2 stand back behind the goals
  • They have full control over what shot their teammate must perform
  • For example player 1 can say ''Header'' and then he plays the ball over the mini goal and his teammate must try score a header. They can say ''First time'', ''Two Touch'' and many more options that they see fit.
  • This drill takes place for the people not involved in the SSG. They will do this and then after a period of time they will swap into the SSG.

Coaching Points:

  • Up on the toes 
  • Listen for your teammates call
  • Commit to the shot

9 vs 9 Game with bonus points (20 mins)

Method: 9 vs 9 game with bonus points

  • 9 vs 9 game between the red and the blue team
  • Additional points are scored for different goals 
  • For example 2 points are awarded for goals outside of the box
  • 1 point is awarded for a normal goal inside the box
  • 2 points are awarded also for headed goals

Coaching Points:

  • Bring the shooting from the previous drills into practice here
  • Play at match pace
  • Make the pitch as wide as possible
