Set Up: Half pitch with wide areas brought in 7 yrds either side, position 3 target goals on half way line with a big goal opposite end. Players in 2 teams, Def 4-2-1 & attackers 1-2-3. Play will always start with attackers.
Format: Attacking team look to move the ball with speed and break the low block of the defenders who look to keep their compactness and be patient to win the ball & counter and attempt to score into any of the 3 target goals.
Key Points: Roles & Responsibilities In order to defend in balance players must understand their roles within the team. Nearest player to be able to apply pressure to press the line of approach (1st Defender). Support cover from teammates with appropriate angles distances (2nd Defender). Support Cover to offer balance (3rd Defender). Compactness & move as unit to not allow gaps to play through.
Recognise triggers to win the ball - To press, players must recognise cues when the attacker is not in control of the ball, such as soft passes, big touch, weak foot, bouncing the ball, to then, press and look to win the ball.
No Pressure - If there is no pressure on the ball players should drop the line reshape and wait for opportunities to engage.
Transition - Once ball is won can we break out quickly with quick counter to score, it is important to retain ball with good decision making, if ball lost quick transition back into low block.
