Football/Soccer Session (Beginner): Game Day Tactics

Coaches please do not encourage or coach your players (defenders) to stay in front of your defensive goal or near the penalty area while your team is attacking. All players should move with the ball on offense and defensive. Instead of teaching players to stand in one place for “positions” teach them to spread out or find their own space, or to get away from trouble. From an attacking point of view you would be attacking with less options and numbers down. From a defending point of view your team would have a line of pressure in front of your goal instead of the opponent’s goal. Defend closer to their goal. From a player development point of view it doesn't teach the players to move with the ball and problem solve. In soccer everyone plays offense and everyone plays defense. This helps keep all players involved and ingauged. Elimating boredom.

For our U6/8 teams attacking players should not be allowed "camp out" Cherry pick" or wait in an offside position waiting for the ball. (There is not offside but do not leave players in an offside position) This forces the other team to leave players in there own half instead of getting involved in the attack. Your attcking players should be back across midfield helping the team defend. All players defend and all players attack.
