Warm Up (15 mins)

Players start on the outside of the square as marked out by the red cones.

The first player takes a touch into the box towards the blue flat markers, once there with the ball the player looks to pass out to the player at the next cone. This player repeats as do the other as we travel around the outside of the square playing area, players follow their pass. Change direction once the ball has made a few rotations.

Coaching Points:

- Good first touch

- Accurate pass out of the box

- Challenge the players to have minimal touches to go into the box and make their pass

Shooting Unopposed (15 mins)

Similiar layout, but after the player takes their first touch they will now look to shoot. Once a player has taken their sbhhot, ask them to retrieve their ball and join the opposite start position. Players will get opportunities to shoot with their left and right feet.

Coaching Points:

- Good first touch

- Can they shoot on their second touch?

- Can they take a look before shooting to see the goalkeepers positioning?

- Depending on the goalies position, can they choose an appropriate shot type?

Shooting Opposed (15 mins)

Players in pink act as defenders, they trigger once the passing player releases the ball to the shooting player. If the defender wins the ball they attempt to pass it though the gate inbetween the shooting players which is also a good place for the coach to stand to observe the practice and send any stray balls back to the two starting points.

Coaching Points:

- As previous screen, but now with added urgency due to the defenders.

- Challenge players to use speed first, but remind them to rely on 1v1 skills if necessary

- Possibly add in a time limit to prevent unrealistic lengthy 1v1's

Shooting Mini-Game (20 mins)

Thanks Joe Tinker for this one!

Distribute players evenly into two teams, each teams alteernates sending a player onto the pitch to have a shot against the opposing goal, one that player has taken his shot, he stays on the field and attempts to defend the other team from doing the same.

Orange player shoots, then defends against the pinks. 2nd orange player joins the field to create a 2v1 against the pinks. 2nd pink player joins to even up the balance with a 2v2, and so on. Swap the starting team once all balls are expended so both sides get the overload.

Coaching Points:

- Challenge players to use speed, can they get their shot away with minimal touches of the ball?

- Can players play before the previous player realise he has to defend against them?

- Can players use their overload to their advantage?
