Team will work on Midfield Play. The objective is to have the players understand the connecting passes in the middle of the field to attract the opposition centrally to then find spaces elsewhere. The session progresses and ends up becoming very similar to a game situation hopefully facilitating the players understanding and excecution of the idea.

The 22 field players will divide themselves into two playing grids.
Each grid will have 2 teams of 4 and 3 neutral players helping the team on possession. Ultimately when a team has possession of the ball, it becomes 7v4.
The team without the ball has to stay together and minimize passing lanes through them and find the right time to press as a group. The team on possession has to continuously scan the are around and position themselves in the open spaces to find passing lanes and moments to keep the ball.
Coaching points:
Creating passing lanes
Body positioning to find 3rd man
Can we skip lines of pressure.
Can the neutral in the middle be the playmaker and continuously find the open player.

We have an 11 v 11 functional exercise where the players need to combine through the marked area in the middle before they can attack any of the 3 mini goals.
It's important to be able to combine through the middle as this actions attracts the other team centrally which then opens up the spaces to attack. It's important that when the ball is being combined in the middle, the players who could possible be options on the sides can start to position themselves in optimal position to be dangerous.

The field will open up to 18 to 18.
Width of the box (44 yards)
There is a 20 by 44 area in the middle where players need to connect three passes before they can penetrate the back line. This allows us to continue to work on combining through the midfield to attract the opposition centrally before we recognize the space on the flanks or in behind.

Warm Up (15 mins)
The warm up will consist of a physical and cognitive activation.
Half of the team will be performing a physical activation circuit where players will be required to work on jumping, landing, accelerating, decelerating, footwork, stability, balance and jogging.
Half of the team will be performing 4v1 rondos where the players will start to value the possession of the ball and the coaching points that make a difference such as body positioning, weight of touch, creating passing lanes, cutting passing lanes, putting pressure on the ball.
