Rondo exercise transitioning to an attacking phase of play
Organisation:
11v8 (11 attacking, 8 defending but then sub principle of quick counter attack when regaining possession)
- Play starts with a build up rondo inside the white shaded area (1 gk, 2 CB, 2 cm for the reds, against 2 blue players)
- After 5 passes, the reds can now break out and attack the big goal. If the blue team win the ball back, they must look for a quick counter attack and can score in either the big goal or the 2 mini goals in the wide areas
Block 1:
Can the attacking team look to break out of the shaded area with the first pass to one of the CF's and create a central overload, to then play a through ball to one of the wingers making a blindside run beyond the defending FB
Block 2:
Can the breakout pass now be to the inverted FB (only one FB to be inverted, the other stays wide/covers incase of a turnover). The CF then look to either receive at feet in 1/2 spaces or make a timed run beyond the last line.
Block 3:
Can the breakout pass now look to be straight to the wingers's feet to create a 1v1/2v1 (with support from FB)Coaching points:
Attacking:
- Look to find free player
- Positive in possession, can we play forwards
- In final third, take chances
- If we can see a sight of goal, shoot
- Find the overload
Defending:
- Compactness
- Shuffle as a unit
- Counter press aggressive
- First pass forward when regaining possession
- Quick counter attack

Organisation:
11v9 focusing on building up from our goal kicks
- I will be coaching the reds (Gk-2-4-2-2) building out from our goal kicks
- I will be managing the blues (2-3-3, No GK or CB's)
Coaching points:
- Be patient, invite the press
- Find the spare player
- When attacking midfielders receive the ball, the deeper CM look to support underneath to then find wingers
Progressions:
- Ask the blue team to press in a different way to give us different problems to solve
The idea will be to draw the press and then look to find our attacking midfielders/CF's and then score in the 2 mini goals/dribble into the empty big goal
If the blue team win possession back, they look to attack the big goal

Routine 2 will be signalled by 1 hand up
The changes to this routine will be;
- the number 6 will look to receive the ball short to have a go at goal.
- The 7, 8 & 9 will attack the back post (making a decoy for the 6)
- The 4 & 5 attack the 6 yard box (centrally)
