Objective(s):
* Recognising HOW and WHEN to play forward (Awareness, foot selection, body position, body shape).
* Understanding WHY position and body shape are important before receiving (Scanning for opponents, team-mates, seeing as much as possible).
* Understanding WHERE and WHY you are trying to play forward first (Break lines, counter attack, create overloads, create scoring opportunities).

15X15 sq (diagram) or adjust to suit age/ability.
4 players - one on each corner, this time start at the back of shaded area.
10-15 mins
Practice:
*Players start at the smaller, outer cones.
*Ball is played around the square as shown in diagram (rotate both ways around).
*Players receive with right foot, pass with right foot (clockwise), receive with left foot, pass with left foot (anti-clockwise).
Coaching Points:
*Quality of pass - Aim between receiver and cone (towards front foot).
*Player receiving - Move forwards to meet the ball with front foot.
*Player receiving - Receive on front foot by cushioning the ball with a closed foot to take it around the cone.
*Timing of movement - Receiver will show towards the ball, AFTER the pass has been played.
Other Considerations:
*Communication/Information - Names, Pass, Yes, Show.
*Scan - Look at the player you will pass too, as you move forwards to receive.
Progression(s):
*Time limit - On receivers first touch, the passer counts to 3 seconds. Receiving player must try to make pass within this time.
*Speed of play - Compete against another group. Ball starts and finishes with player A.

Setup:
15X15 sq (diagram) or adjust to suit age/ability.
4 players inside area (3v1).
10-15 min.
Practice:
*3 reds keep possession from 1 blue.
*Blue player tries to tig the player with the ball. If this happens they swap roles.
*Rotate defender after 10 passes or 60 second time limit
Coaching Points:
*Use coaching points from previous 2 screens (receiving back/front foot).
*Awareness of - a) Defenders position.
*Movement of players off the ball (create/open passing channels).
Progression(s):*Limit touches - 2/3 touch.*Make area smaller.
*2v2.

Setup:
3 zones 15x20 - whole area 45x20 (adjust for age/ability).
Players locked in zones (see diagram).
Practice:
*Red team play the ball through each zone (1-2-3/3-2-1).
*Once the ball goes into zone 2 it cannot go back into previous zone.
*Ball can be passed between players in same zone.
*Rotate players/defenders
Coaching Points:
*Bring together previous screens coaching points.
*Consider positions/body shape.
*Choices - a) Play forwards first choice.
b) Play sideways second choice.
Progressions:
*Limit passes in each zone/point system for passing forward within 1 or 2 passes.
*Player who passes into next zone can join that zone, so can the defender (3v2).
*Tima limit to get the ball from zone 1-3 and back to zone 1.
*Lead into SSG (see next screen).

*Ball is passed around the outside of the square (rotate both ways around).
*Players receive with left foot, pass with left foot (clockwise), receive with right foot, pass with right foot (anti-clockwise).
Coaching Points:
*Quality of pass - Accuracy/Weight: Aim between receiver and cone (towards back foot).
*Player receiving - Move backwards to open/create: a) Receiving channel from passer
b) Passing channel to next receiver
*Player receiving - Receive on back foot by cushioning and opening the back foot to show the ball where to go.
*Timing of movement - On receivers first touch, the next receiver should explode backwards to open/create both channels to receive and pass.
Other Considerations:
*Communication/Information - Names, Pass, Yes, Turn Out, Man On.
*Scan - Look at the player you will pass too, as you move backwards from the cone (before receiving).
