Long Range Shooting
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Instructions
Set up as above, using the area of the penalty box.
Split players into two groups, one each side of the goal as indicated, with two neutral servers.
Instructions
Player runs around the first cone and receives a passing break towards the middle cone. The player takes one touch across, moving the ball to the other side of the middle cone (1) and then strikes it. After striking the ball, the player becomes the neutral server, and the retiring neutral server joins the line.
The two lines rotate every other shot.
Coaching Points
Focus on placement rather than power.
Progressions
1. Vary the distance of the cones depending on your objective - initially, shots may be from outside the penalty area - can the distance be reduced, to allow the forward to drive forward and shoot on the drive at the blue cone (2), or drive past the yellow cone, and shoot on the angle (3)?

Organisation
Create a pitch with two halves each the size of a penalty area. Use two goals.
Split players into two equal numbered teams, each with a GK.
Instructions
The ball starts with the end line player who passes it to thye middle player. All players follow their pass forward to the next cone. The second player plays into the third player for a wall pass. The shooter - the player on the opposite goal line from the very first player, takes a set up touch and the second touch is a shot on goal, which must be taken before the centre line.
Start with two players on the second and third cone, to avoid delay in waiting for the passing player to take up his position. Keep a high tempo, as soon as the shooter has shot, begin again. Shooter joins his teams line of players.
Coaching Points
1. Placement is the priority when shooting.
2. Encourage players to use power - and then note whether accuracy decreases with power. Decision making - when to use power, when to use accuracy? Placement - GK off his line or wrongly positioned. Power - GK accurately set and/or support from other players to follow up a rebound?
Progressions
1. Players dribble through the cones and then shoot immediately on the angle. Swap ends to encourage use of left foot also.
2. The two teams compete against each other by keeping score - first team to score 10 goals is the winner.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Organisation
Set up a pitch with each half the size of a penalty area. Two goals - GK in each.
Divide players into 3 teams of 4 - rotate either every 4 minutes of quick fire football.
Instructions
Split players into 3 v 1 in each box (4v1 with GK). The team of three is limited to two touch as they try to create space by moving the ball quickly and using the entire area. As soon as a shooting opportunity presents itself, they must take it. they can only shoot from there own half.
The lone forward in the opposite box is looking to collect any rebounds and second chances to score.
Every shot in this game is from 18 yards and out unless the lone forward steals the ball and shoots, or scores from a rebound.
The pace is fast while players get many long range shooting repetitions.
Coaching points
Type of shot - placed or power? outside, inside of foot or laces?
Speed of taking shooting opportunity - don't take the extra touch once space has been created.
Critical finishing for the lone forward - score on first touch? Speed of reaction.
Progressions
4 v 2 in same size area - communication between 2 forwards if they gain possession - positional play if they look to follow up the rebound - don't want both covering the same area.

Liverpool Shooting (15 mins)
Organisation
As above - but adjust set-up for the shooting distance required.
7-12 players.
Instructions
This drill not only provides many shooting repetitions, but it also requires accurate passing. The ball must be passed firmly to the players correct receiving foot. The receiving player must play two-touch.
Eaqch players follows their pass and moves forward one position.
The shooters first touch must be positive, and the second touch pushes the ball by the cone to the side and strike at goal.
Placement is the priority.
NB two groups can work side by side if two goals are available, with a third group collecting the ball, and groups rotating regularly. Otherwise, set up on opposite side and rotate to the other side to use left foot shooting, as required.
