Football/Soccer Session (Academy Sessions): Pressure Cover

Warm Up

Organization:

• 2 v 2+ 1
• 2 gates on each end of the field 

Instructions:

• Play begins when the defending team passes the ball to any of the 2 attacking players (cannot be neutral player). As soon as pass is made the defending team is allowed to pressure. If they can regain possession on the opponents half, 1 point, if they can then finish into either gates then 2nd point. Whichever team is in possession of the ball gains the advantage of the neutral as well. 

Coaching Points/Questions:

• Constant communication 
• Scan the field to identify best move to counter 
• How can we create a disadvantage when we pressure? 

Progressions:

• Neutral can only take 2 touches 

Regressions:

• N/A

Conditioned Game

Organization:

• 4v3 
• 2 goals on attacking end 
• 1 big goal on the defensive end 

Instructions:

• Defensive players (LB, RB) play the ball into any of the attacking players to start the play. The 2 backs along with the CM will look to regain possession and finish on either goals. The offensive team is looking to finish on the big goal

• Communication between teammates 
• Scan the field to identify best move to counter quickly 
• How can we create a disadvantage? 

Progressions:

• CM starts from a recovery run from up top and has a 3 second delay, making it a 4v2
