This session is designed to improve our defense when the other team has the ball in Phase 2. How will we deal with their build up and possession? This session works on setting pressing traps by forcing the play inside.

Objective: teach the players how to presure the ball collectively and funnel the play into a certain area on the field.
Set-Up: 3v3+2 total of 8 players in a 16x18 grid. Play in 3-4 minute reps with 2 min rest. Rotate players.
Coaching Points:
1. Communicate press OR organize don't just chase;
2. Force the play inside to the bottom of the funnel;
3. Bend your run to pressure the ball if you are the left or right side of the funnel;
4. Read the pressure on the ball if you are the bottom of the funnel. The tighter the pressure the closer you can be.
5. Put pressure on the ball;
6. Recognize pressing triggers: bouncing ball, bad touch, bad body position, poor pass etc...
7. If you are in possession and lose it immediately try to win it back.

Objective: improve our ability to press against a 4-4-2 formation in a 1-3-4-3 or 1-4-3-3.
Organization: 1/2 field. Big goal + 2 small counter goals placed 5 yards outside of center circle on either side.
Instruction: ball starts with a goalkick OR pass back to goalkeeper. The Pressing team must organize defensively based on coaching tactics. The build up team can score in either goal.
Variations: Have the pressing team start with the ball and they have 5 seconds to score. (2) Have midfielder on build-up team start with the ball but they have to go back to goalkeeper first.
Coaching Points:
1. Force the play to the inside.
2. Find the free player
3. If the pressure is broken recover behind the ball at speed.
4. Funnel.
