Divide the players into 2 or 3 groups of 3 or 4 in the gridded area. Players look to build possession by with team mates and must not be in the same square as a team mate, but can share a square with a player from another team. Once a player has passed to a team mate, they must find a new square. When passing intially, the player with the ball must pass the square they are in, however other players can move squares to create passing angles/ lanes. Get the players to keep score of how many passes they complete (use tactics board).
Progressions:
- The player with the ball must pass to an adjacent square that the receiver indicates they are running into.
The player on the ball must travel one square using the term running in to indicate they are running into a free space. Once they have done that, they can pass either to feet (to a player in the square) or into space (an adjacent square a player is in).
- Allow the players to steal other footballs, reduce or increase the numnber of footballs, remove the team square sharing restriction.
Coaching points:
- Passer makes eye contact with receiver, receiver communicates vocally or with movement or hand gesture to where they want the ball.
- Running in command - with the ball: tells the team mates the player on the ball is running into space and to get out of the way. Without the ball: tells player on the ball they are running into a space.

Conditioned game - Grid to remain to give players reference and allow easy interventions based on main practise.
If team scores by ensuring players are not in the same areas of the pitch and make atleast two passes in the build up, goals worth double. Goalkeepers can roll out from goal kicks.

3v3 arrival activity
3v3 (10 mins)
3v3 endzone game, ball starts in an endzone and played out to a team mate, player's can retreat to their endzone under no pressure and take time to play out. Objective is to pass to a team mate in the opposite endzone to score, when a team scores, the opposing team restart the game from their endzone. If the ball goes out, play is restarted from the point the ball left the play area or endzone if not a touchline exit. Can also use bazooka goals.
Progressions/ adaptations
- If less than 12 players, do 2v2 with magic players to give the team in possesion 2 options.
- Allow the first pass to be completed without pressure to encourage a passing game and give the team with the ball a chance to build possession.
- Limit touches e.g. odd or even numbers, maximum 3 touch.
- If players are struggling to keep the ball, allow players to only mark a certain player.
- Allow dribbling into the endzone, do the players still look to pass? Which tactic is proving more succesful?
Coaching points:
-Eyes up to look for passing options, step towards target with non kicking foot and sidefoot through middle of the ball towards target.
- Sole of the foot to control where possible or alternative method.
- movement to create space to receive or hold space, ensuring player on the ball has two targets.
