  • Using quarter pitch, lay out 2 cones ahead of each player.
  • Players run from the start line, to the red cone, back to the start line, to the yellow cone, back to the start line, to the far line, back to the start line. Three shuttle runs in total.
  • It is not a race!
  • If a player cuts any shuttle short (eg. doesn't go all the way to a cone or line) please add a 2 second time penalty to their time.
  • Please record a time for each player.
  • Don't have too many players running at the same time so that you can accurately get a time for each of them.

ASSESSMENT:

Time.

MOVING THE BALL

1) Short push pass over 6 metres.

2) Slap pass over 23 metres (quarter pitch).

ASSESSMENT:

Score out of 5 in the following areas -

(1/2 = beginner, 3 = improvement needed, 4 = competent enough, 5 = standout player)

  • Feet (Are they moving their feet to receive and pass, or are they standing static in the same position. Do they move their feet to receive on their strong side).
  • Body (Are they facing their partner to receive and moving to side on to pass).
  • Stick (Are they holding their stick correctly, are they using the correct part of the stick to pass and receive).
  • Technique.
  • Attitude (Are they working hard, following instructions).
Share feedback with players to help them with their technique. If they show improvement after your input, put their initial score in brackets and upgrade them. This helps us understand if they can follow direction. We're not looking for perfect players, we're looking for players who can develop.

  • Each cone is 2 metres apart.

  • The course should be 15 metres (two thirds of the quarter pitch).
  • Ball must go around each cone, the player does not need to go around each cone.
ASSESSMENT:

  • Attacker carries around the red cone. Defender runs around the yellow cone.
