Small, sided game:

Aim - As a team work on trying to outscore your opponent. Position yourselves where you like to play.
Description - Unaltered game. No instructions and what the goal of the game is just watch the match and see their ability and the sort of passages of play they use to win the game. Where needed use Drive By's to some of the players to get them into better positions to receive the ball and impact the game.

Target - Assessing the players ability and how often they work on playing passes. How many goals can you get in the time frame.

Condition - If the match isn't having enough people touching the ball add a target of 3 passes before you can score to stop the players constantly trying to run through the opposing team alone and allow everyone a chance to get a touch of the ball.

Challenge - 2 goals if the winger is involved in the attack.

Wing play through thirds (20 mins)

Wing play whilst also working on playing through thirds.

Aim - Pass the ball between the thirds and work on building out from the back using wing play. wingers work on their 1v1 situations whilst attackers can work on their movement in 1v2 situations and midfielders will have a 2v2 which helps them work on midfield battles.

Description - 8v8 game with pitch split into thirds. The 3 thirds are defence, midfield and attack with the wing separate to allow wing play between all the thirds.

Target - Involving wingers for chance creation. Work on getting out wide so you can deliver a ball into the box for the attackers to try and score from.

Condition - The only way you can score is by playing it to the wingers. If one of the wingers crosses or passes it to the attacker, the attacker can score. If you score without playing it to the winger, the goal will not count. The goalkeeper can't leave the six-yard box to allow the attacker and defenders to work on 2v1 situations. If a winger or midfielder plays a 1-2 with the attacker, they can join the attacker in the attacking third to create a 2v2 or 3v2 situation.

Challenge - Maximum of 3 touches (add after 5 minutes so they can get used to the drill).

Interventions:

The challenges, targets and conditions have already been mentioned above.

Drive by can be used at points when the players either find the session confusing and need guidance or if I want to give the children a harder challenge for themselves if they find it to easy or give them an easier task if they find it too difficult.

Fly by will be used throughout the session as it will allow me to get instructions across and will allow the session to go smoother. Can also be used if the players aren't playing in the right positions or if the transitions aren't done properly.

After 10 minutes use the coaching process so I can assess whether they have completed it successfully or whether during the next 10 minutes changes/adaptations need to be made to the session so the end goal can be achieved.
