Description

What: Building up from the back to maintain forward progression up the field.
Who: GK, Center Backs, CDM/6, CM/8
Where: Defensive Third
When: Goalkeeper is in possesison of the ball and players have spread out to begin building up
Why: Building up play from the back when opposing team has applied pressure has caused for lose in maintaining possession and opposing team has a chance to shoot on net

Introduction (15 mins)

Organization:

-2 fields for 4v2 / 5v2 rondos

Instructions:

-Maintain possession of the ball, every 4 passes is 1 point

-If defenders intercept the ball, they receive 1 point

Coaching Points/Questions:

-Angle and distance of support

-Weight and accuracy of pass

-Quality and direction of 1st touch

-4v1 / 5v1 rondos

Main Activity (15 mins)

Organization:

-2 boxes set up as shown

-3v2 in each box plus supporting GK to make it 4v2

Instructions:

-Both groups play at the same time

-GK starts activity by passing to a teammate inside the playing area; GK will then support the play from outside the playing area

-Attacking team attempts to play out from their own zone and score in one of the two small goals

-Defending team attempts to win the ball and dribble over the end of the playing area to score

Coaching Points/Questions:

-Movement to support - angle and distance of support based on pressure

-Receive to play forward

-Play through or around pressure

-Willingness to play into support backward or sideways when unable to play forward

-Recognition of when to play over pressure into target or into the run of a teammate

-Use target player at end line as new scoring system

Progression (15 mins)

Organization:

Instructions:

-Play starts from GK

-Attacking team looks to play through the back to move the ball up the field to score in the net for 1 point

-Attackers can only move over to 1 zone (i.e. If starting in Zone 1, player can move to zone 2 but not Zone 3)

-Defenders must stay in their zones and cannot move out unless they have possession of the ball

-Defenders look to score by dribbling to endzone for 1 and scoring on large goal for 3
