Warm up/Skills Focus (5 mins)

Warm Up Space (5 minutes on each)


  • Space 1 - Me and my ball time, ball each - working on some core skills (swap balls and connect, 3D on the move, repeat both with pressure from coach)
  • Space 2 - Half doing game day warm up (3 cones, 3 balls). Players on the cones are static, everyone else is dynamic. People on the cones swap when passed to by someone in the middle who then rests on a cone. (1 minute each - Flat first, then bobbles, then 100% game pace) 

Meanwhile, keepers get warmped up

Monarch of the Mount (10 mins)

Using a space like the D or a circle as above.

Players have a ball and aim to keep it till the end. Last person standing is the winner.

Can have a defender steal balls or everyone can hit opponents balls out the area.

Passing round the square (15 mins)

3 players in a square

Ball moves around the outside of the square and players must move to the free cone to keep the ball moving continuously.

Start with Forehand receives. Drill focuses on players having Left and Right options.

Coaching points

- Side on receive (left should pointing to the passer)

- Soft hands (Cushion the ball rather than stop, imagine the stick slowing the ball down from left foot to right)

- Early footwork (Get in position early to focus on the ball)

Progression

- Go Opposite way- Clockwise with ball

- Add a defender who can incept the ball. Attackers can go either direction.

Pass to win

Players are in pairs

- Aim of the game is to work together to pass the ball through the gates as much as possible.

- when you go through a yellow gate you must find another colour

Coaching points

- Stay connected with partner

- Keep ball in a position to pass

- Eyes up to see the pitch

Progressions

- Add defenders to block the goals

- 3 touch rule

Coach will call out 2 numbers. The first is for the orange team and the second the blue. The number is how many players are involved. For example- 2 and 1. Means 2 orange attackers against 1 blue defender. 

Focus is on playing with an over/ under load.

Progression- call 2 numbers to create a 2v2

Swapping Game (20 mins)

SET UP

  • Two teams. Each team is split across two pitches.
  • Each team has a goal to attack towards and a goal to defend. This must be the same direction for each team on both pitches.
  • When a player scores, that player immediately moves to the other pitch, joining the same coloured team.
  • There should be lots of movement of players from one pitch to the other and this will naturally lead to players having an underload or overload.

If you have a large group, create several pitches for scoring players to keep moving down the pitches.
