Football/Soccer Session (Difficult): Break Out

Break Out (10 mins)

Set up

• Divide pitch and players into 1/3s
• Coach stands on halfway with lots of balls

• All players locked in to start with
• Players can only break out by dribbling, or if they receive a pass on the run
• Possession game in the centre, teams waiting for the right opportunity to 'break out' and score
• Coach (grey) restarts the game
• 3rd time (blue) can be used to maintain possession

• Movement to receive
• Quality of pass (weight / quality)
• Timing of forward funs
• Different type of finishes
• Combination plays

• 1) Add defender in each end zone
• 2) One player from the team in possession can join the attack
• 3) One player from both teams can join in
• 4) Add offsides
• 5) Overload teams in the middle, goals count double for team with fewer players 

Think STEP

• Space - do you need to make it larger (easier) or smaller (more challenging)
• Task - can you change the task or challenge?
• Equipment - can you add target areas for example?
• Players - can you increase/decrease the number of players?
