Organization:
- Flat cones are setup to show starting positions. Tall cones will also be used to indicate where to check in to recieve the ball.
Instructions:
- There will be a few markers on the field to help players identify where we can recieve the ball and where we want to go next.
- First we will work on playing out from the back with the outside midfielder checking out and checking back in to receive ball from the center back and then looking to play forward into the small goal.
- Our second option would be to use our center midfielder. Center midfielder will identify the triggers to move and check in to recieve the ball from the outside midfielder with time and space.
- As soon as the ball is travelling towards the outside midfielder, the center midfielder checks out and in to receive the ball from the outside mid and switches the play to out wide on the other side for us to advance into the middle third and then progress into the attacking third.
Coaching Points:
- Identify the triggers and cues to start moving.
- Quick and sharp movements i.e. check out / check in.
- Creating a triangle with good angle of passes.
- Good starting position to recieve the ball.
- Good first touch.
- Body shape when receiving the ball i.e. always side on to have a decent view of the pitch.
Progressions:
- Addition of multiple balls to increase intensity and repititions.
