Create a grid about 35X25.
Set up about 10-15 small cones (the treasure) in both sides of the grid (the island).
On opposite sides have each team (the pirates in different color pennies) start with a ball each.
INSTRUCTIONS
On the coaches command, the pirates attempt to dribble to the other island to take the treasure.
Once they get to the cone they must pick up the cone and take it back to their starting point while dribbling the ball.
The first team to collect all the treasure wins.
PROGRESSION
Add a guard (wears a nuetral penne) to protect the treasure. (Guard will try to intercept the ball.) If the guard stops the pirate, the pirate must give up that piece of treasure and try again.
COACHING POINTS
Keep the ball close and in control.
Dribble with speed.
Pick head up while dribbling so you can see where the defenders are.
Dribblers should explode past the defenders and dribble with speed.
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Put players in pairs with one ball per group.
Create a series of gates (two cones, 1yd apart) for the players to pass through
Make half the ‘gates’ a different color of cone (example: 3 red gates, and 3 yellow gates).
Use colored pennies if you don't have cones to make gates.
Players have to pass through the gates to their partner on the other side. Once a gate has been passed through, the pair has to pass through a different gate for another point.
Play for 45 seconds. Ask players their score and repeat the game challenging each pair to beat their own score.
PROGRESSION
Groups have to alternate color of goal they go to, or can only go to one color
COACHING POINTS
Players need to try and take their first touch with the ball when receiving in the direction they want to go next.
Encourage players to open their body to the field so they can see more of it!
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Set up two small sized goals on 35 X 25 field.
Let players play 4v4, coach decides how restarts happen.
COACHING POINTS
None! Just let them play! However, get excited when you see a player try a try a dribbling move, or attempts to get a defender off balance.
Always highlight positives you see, but don’t stop play and don’t correct their decision making. This is their time to play how they want!
