Football Problem
getting caught in tight areas and slow transition in to our BP positions which limits ability to get the ball into space and start a quick counter attack
Five Ws
What - Failing to get the ball out of tight areas quickly
Where - Central areas middle 3rd
Who - 6,8,10
When - when we win tha ball back
Why - 6,8,& 10 are to close when we win the ball and transition isnt quick enough to create options in space out wide
Session Objective
in this session we aim to improve speed of transition to stretch our opposition to quickly counter attack
Organisation:
set up as shown. 3v2 in two grids in central area plus 2 in the outside grid as displayed
Coach starts by passing the ball to the blue team and they are to maintain posession as long as possible against red in the middle area.
If they complete 10 passes they receive a point
Red to press the ball immediately to win back after blue has taken their first touch
once they have one the ball can they play a player on the oytside grid as quick as possible
Once acheived the ball goes back to the coach and the player that passed to the outside is to swap with the player on the outside
Progression:
10 to get out of the grid as well to encourage playing a forward pass also
Limit touches on red team to encourage speed of ball movement
Player Actions
6,8,10 to press ball immediately
play wide players as soon as first opportunity presents
Once pass is played swap with the outside player by player who made the pass
transition into BP shape as soon as ball is won
Coaches Cues
Has the closest player pressed the ball
have they played the wide option as soon as it presented itself
did they move to transition as we won the ball
