1) A passes ball to B. B dribbles and attempts to score in small goal. C closes down quickly and forces wide. After play is over, C has to perform dyanmic side shuffles through the long poles.

Rotation: A > B > C > A

2) Same as #1. But now C adds a block to the side shuffle

3) Same as #1 but now C goes through backwards through the long poles.

* Have other grid exactly the same but mirroring so players work on defending different angles.

Coaching points: Close down quickly, low stance and and round your run. What happens if you run straight at attacker? (goal is wide open)

*Teach what goal side means!

Defenders need to be tenacious

GU11&GU12: Defending in Offensive Half (15 mins)

Defending in Offensive Half: GK-2-1-3-1

6 v 5 + GK

The 6 play with 2CB's - 3 Mids - 1 Forward

- 5+GK has to score by dribbling across cone goals.

- If the 6 win it they have 6 seconds to get a shot off.

When is the best time to go forward? (As soon as you win the ball)

Forward Defensive Responsibilities: The Striker positions himself next to CB to prevent a switch back around. The other forward positions himself between both center backs as ball is played to make sure ball doesn't get switched back around.

3 Midfielders:

Need to start central and prevent any penetrating balls through midfield. Once ball gets played wide, the OM on that side needs to close down outside back ASAP and force wide without getting beat line.

Center Backs: Provides support to 3 midfielders in front of him. It it's imperative they have good support of front three.

Coaching Points: Have to trust each other. Good Shape and Balance. What are the cues to start the press? (when ball gets played wide, that triggers OM to press and force wide.

6 v 5 + GK

The 6 play with one HM- 3 Mids - 2 Forwards

- 5+GK has to score by dribbling across cone goals.

- If the 6 win it they have 6 seconds to get a shot off.

When is the best time to go forward? (As soon as you win the ball)

Forwards Defensive Responsibilities: One of the forwards pressures CB with ball and if ball is played wide, the forward needs to continue running towards outside back and forcing wide.

Holding Mid: Provides support to 3 midfielders in front of him. In game will have two holding mids but it's imperative they have good support of front three. In 11v11 will have to have good relationship with backs to support and cover them if them go forward.

Coaching Points: Have to trust each other.
