Beginning basics and games for 1v1 situations - focusing on the Block save.

Train the Block Save in 1v1 opportunities — this is only one of three ways to deal with 1v1 (also Spread and Cobra)
1 - Pair players by age and ability level
2 - Yellow GK is prepared to do a Block save while the Red Attacker is simply trying to knock the ball off the GK
3 - Red Attacker moves toward one of two stationary balls (no fake outs)
4 - Yellow GK moves to same ball and gets into Block position
5 - Red Attacker reasonably strikes ball to ricochet off GK (to get GK used to being struck)
CPs: GK leads with mirrored foot to attacker, drop back knee but float it off the ground, keep shoulders/hips square to attacker, “hug a tree” with arms, chest/shoulders over the ball

Working on 1v1 situations (block, spread, cobra, set and dive)
Two Red Attackers on the outside of a 10 x 10 grid
Two Yellow GKs each defend their individual line of the grid
Red attackers look to find each other with the ball.
First Yellow GK looks to be in a block or cobra (possibly spread) to keep ball in front
Second Yellow GK sets to prepare for ball through initial GK
If pass gets through entire grid then GKs turn and switch roles
Pass ball through line 1 = 1 point
Pass ball through entire grid = 2 points
GK save = 1 point
Play for set time or set number of points
CPs: quality block position (stay on feet), deny penetration (keep ball in front as GK), second GK sets and looks to defend line like an actual shot.

Quick-paced, enjoyable exercise to work on close-range blocking with starfish / collection with smother
Four small goals with one GK in each goal
S1 passes to S2 (S2 approximately 2-3 yards max from each goal
S2 one-times a strike (reasonable weight) to one of the goals looking to score
GKs role is to block
Ball stays live until it is knocked out of the grid
- if GK catches, can strike/bowl to score in another goal
Repeat sequence
Progression: Can add fourth goal (make a square) if necessary/desired
CPs: Stay low, positive angles, quick reflexes, correct reads, fingers down (like a shovel)
Competitive: If get scored on = out to rest. S2 goes to GK, S1 to S2. Resting player to to S1

Play with attacking players only on field to small goals with GKs to encourage activity by GKs
- Encourage 1v1 attacking opportunities - including switching the play to get those 1v1 chances
Play in teams of two so that GKs have a teammate in the other goal. Play for a set number of minutes then switch GKs.
Can keep score by goals, saves, or a combination of both.
Field players may attack either goal at any time, but must pass at least once before going to goal
Field size = 15 wide x 15 long (adjust as necessary)
CPs: Be brave in 1v1 setting, use proper technical action (spread, block, cobra, set and react), recognize opportunities quickly

Play 3v3 to small goals with GKs to encourage activity by GKs
- Encourage 1v1 attacking opportunities - including switching the play to get those 1v1 chances
Field size = 15 wide x 15 long (adjust as necessary)
CPs: Be brave in attack, be steady in defense (deny penetration), look to unbalance defender, commit to the attack, recognize opportunities quickly

Each goalkeeper with a ball.
Area determined by age, size of group, and ability
Each GK with ball in one hand with arm extended
Game is to knock the ball out of the opponents' hand while maintaining the ball in your hand
CPs: Getting GKs to move and get loose, check the area around them (get them used to scanning), fun and competitive
