1v1 transition game (20 mins)

Focus + Session design

  • 1v1 attacking transition game
  • 10 x 16 yard pitch
  • 90sec games, 30 sec rest - high intensity (x4)

Coaching detail

  • React, Recover, Regain. Never give up. 
  • Desire to win the possession. 

Progressions/Regressions

  • Double points if you score in the end-zone
  • 2v2 Transition break-out game

Wave game (20 mins)

Focus + Session design

  • Defend - attack - off wave game
  • Focusing on reaction and recovery in transition
  • 2v1 into 3v2 - repeat
  • 90sec games, 30 sec rest - high intensity (x4)

Coaching detail

  • Delay, Deny, Dictate, Deflect, Defend
  • Be brave, blocks are important
  • Never give up
  • Try and force wide

Progressions/Regressions

  • First set of games, the two reds will attack, the resting player(s) will be waiting on the half-way line. 
  • Second set of game, add transition, defend, attack, off. 2v1 into 3v2 repeated.

Bigger wave game (20 mins)

Focus + Session design

  • 4 team bigger distance wave game
  • Attacking in a 5v4
  • If you score, go and attack the far goal.
  • If defenders win the ball, break the half-way line to attack far goal
  • Waiting team, start on the 18-yard area
  • 4min games (x 4)

Coaching detail

  • Delay, Deny, Dictate, Deflect, Defend
  • Be brave, blocks are important
  • Try and force wide, don't allow inside

Progressions/Regressions

  • Add time-limit to score if too slow, replicating a transition so needs to be quick

  • Team in possession must make 7 passes in their own half before they can move into opposition half to score
