Goal of the session is for U7 players to start to understand the basics of positions, with an emphasis on goal kicks.

Purpose: Ball work to work on turns when dribbling with the ball
Description: Pairs of two with one ball. First person dribbles out to cones, makes a turn, and passes back to partner. Turns:
Pull back
Outside of foot
Inside of foot hard cut

Purpose: Build understanding that goal kicks should be played far and wide, not across the goal.
Description: 1 plays a goal kick wide to 2, who receives the ball with their inside foot and turns upfield. 3 starts on the endline and makes a run to the top of the "eighteen." 2 passes to 3, who turns and shoot on goal. Players follow their pass to the next spot.
Players rotate 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 1
Coaching Points: 1. Never pass across the goal 2. Someone is always high and wide on goal kicks 3. Receive with inside foot, and turn
Variations: Instead of goal kick, simulate goalie saving shot and throwing to teammate.

Purpose: Start to identify positioning (defender, midfielder and striker), and work on passing to get upfield.
Set Up: Field is split into thirds, with the midfield section having the largest space. Ball always starts red defense. Red has 2 defenders, 3 midfielders, and 1 striker. Blue has no one in red's defensive third, 2 midfielders, and one defender in red's attacking third.
Description: All players must stay in their section. Ball is played to other sections with a pass. Red is trying to score on big goal. If blue wins, they can pass into mini-goals for a point.
Coaching Points: 1. Move around to get open when you don't have the ball ("off ball movement"). 2. Dribble with head up. 3. Avoid the "beehive" by staying in your positions third.
Variations: If too hard, remove defenders until they figure out the passing. If too easy, add a defender in midfield, then red defensive third.

Purpose: Scrimmage where we focus on our positions.
Set Up: Cones set up for each player's position on red and blue team.
Description: Scrimmage, but each time the ball goes out of play or a goal is scored, the first team to get back to their original positions gets the ball played to them.
