1v1 defending. ( 6 players in each group )
1 - Player 1 plays ball into the attacker ( 2 ) as the ball is travelling player 3 needs to apply pressure on the ball. Defender can not tackle practices body shape. ( Side on )
2 - Same as practice 1 - Defenders can now tackle and win the ball. If Def wins the ball dribbles to blue line.
3 - 2v2 - Defenders working as a unit. Press player with the ball other player supports.
- Communication, Angles of support, Body shape, Engage the ball.

s 14 players available (use 2 injured players as GKs, )
Set up = Orange 1-3-2-1 vs Yellow 1-2-1-3
Or = HA, JF, YB. AK, AW, TR, CK
Y=AF, AS, EJ, SG, AL, CH, TCJ
18 yd box width
(30m) x 60m long
GK used as an extra defender for restarts/ recycling the ball, but is not allowed to save shots with hands
Ball starts with Orange playing out from GK pass to CB and try to penetrate lines, going forward to score in big goal.
Yellow front 3 to press collectively, trying to stop the oranges from advancing. If they can delay them for 1 minute, keeping them in their own half, then they gain possession. Or if they win the ball back close to the opponents goal, then score in the big goal.
TEAM TASK
Apply DELAY Principal to stop the opposition from building attacks from the back.
PLAYER TASKS
On a Goal kick restart;
#9 start central, edge of box and on your toes
#10 wait to the right of #9 and slightly deeper to cut off direct pass into the O#6
#8 screen in front of your opposite number - side on so you can see all defenders and can react to a ball over the top
#6 Screen passes into the O#10, but stay deep enough that you can cut out a ball over the top of our #8/10
#7 and #11 stay wide and ready to press the wide defenders if the ball is played there

DELAY.
Closest defender = can you start your movementtowards the receiver
Angle your run so that you show them the direction youwant them to play (preferably to the outside)
When you Press, do so at Speed to within 2mthen slow down - do not Dive in
HOLD THEM THERE - Reduce their time and space to gettheir head up and play forward passes
If they have a bad touch, or freeze in possession, can you win the ball and go for goal?
If not, can you win the ball and give it to a player who can score?
If you cant win the ball, cut off a pass into the #6/#8 or back across goal
If the Defender plays towards the wide defender and then moves forwards looking for a wall pass or an overlap run, can you track them until they are no longer an attacking threat.
If our #11 or #7 is able to contain the wide defender and stop them playing forward (and the CB has overlapped) can you press as a pair and win the ball back off the #2/#5 and go for goal.
If the ball is played to the other side and your teammate is the nearest defender, can you drop slightly and move towards that side to provide COVER and cut off passes through the first line
If the ball is played in between the lines just behind you, can you turn and apply a front press to win or prevent the ball being played back into the defence.
DEPTH COVER
2nd Defender, provide cover in case the first defender is beaten 1v1. Get yourself into a position to support the first presser by being behind and to the side so that the ball carrier cannot play centrally (Screen passes into the midfield)
BALANCE
Other Defenders need to move together when the press starts. Provide balance, whilst maintaining a compact shape to reduce passing options for the ball carrier or to be in a position to quickly intercept an attempted forward pass.
Be side one where possible, so you can quickly drop, or push up depending on the depth of pass
Be on your toes and always aware of where your direct opponent is.
Be ready to become the 1st or 2nd defender and to press or screen quickly if the opposition changes the point of attack.
GENERIC TAKS
CONCENTRATE - stay compact in width and depth between the 2 defensive lines, and be ready to support your teammate if they slip or make a mistake.
COMMUNICATE - If a player moves the ball or shifts the point of attack, we may need to ask another player to press or to screen - encourage and praise
CONTROL - Be patient - we dont have to win the ball on the first pass. If the defender is deep

Cross the River Game:
Team in yellow attempt to play a penetrative pass to team in black while two orange players press and 2 orange attempt to intercept passes. Yellow team encouraged to break lines as quickly as possible, a first time pass is worth 5 points, a pass after one touch is worth 4, after two touches is worth 3, and so on. Orange team have to delay a penetrative pass for 20 secs or 10 passes. If they do so, they get a point. If they win the ball back and score through end poles, they get a point
Play for 3 mins getting as many points as possible before changing pressing team.

Passing and Pressing.
1. Plays ball to player opposite ( 2 ) Then follows pass and presses player 2.
2. Plays to either left or the right and moves the opposite way.( Passes to 3 & moves to 4 )
3. Starts it over again - Straight pass to player (4) opposite and then presses the pass.
4 .Plays to either left or the right and moves the opposite way.
Pressing only Don't try to win the ball!
- Players need to have a good awareness as when player opposite receives they need to press.
- Pass and move to opposite side.
- Presser - Can you make them pass to the side you want them to ?
