GK vs 3-2-3 Options

Our GK should look to play 4/5 first. Depending on the height of the opposing front players and the spacing, you may look to skip to the 2/3/6.

From our 4/5 we should have options of: GK, other 4/5, 6, 8, and potentially 9.

GK vs. 3-2-3

Clip shows a potential pattern of play to break lines into the attacking 1/3.

Key pieces are:

  • 9 stays high to push the back line back, may check in to receive but is done at pace
  • 2/3 are high and wide, only drop if angle is taken away from 4/5
  • One 8 is there to create a simple passing option. The second helps connect us across the field.
  • GK moves out of his frame as he passes to one side

GK vs. 3-3-2

Clip shows a potential pattern of play to break lines into the attacking 1/3.

Using the 6 to break through 2 9s is a great way to build vs. this formation as they only have an 8 vs our 6/8/10.

Key pieces are:

  • 9 stays high to push the back line back, may check in to receive but is done at pace
  • 6/8/10 should be ready to have more possession in build up in this formation due to our numbers up in the midfield
  • One 8 is there to create a simple passing option. The second helps connect us across the field.
  • GK moves out of his frame as he passes to one side

Defending 3-2-3 GKs

Clip shows potential defensive movement.

When we defend against a 3-2-3 we will have our 9 paired with one of our mids up top. Their job before the kick is to take away the passing lane to the CMs on the opposing team.

Key Pieces:

  • We want to win the ball from 2/3
  • If played short, far side 9 or 10 will step, nearside will cheat towards wide player.
  • Our 6/8 will man-mark their mids
  • Our 2/3 must put pressure on their near-side 7/11
  • One of our CBs must be on their 9 at all times
