Setup: Large enough grid to accomodate players. Arrange into 2 or 3 teams. Every player has a ball. Enough cones for 3:1 per player. Coaches hold pinnies in the endzone. Each coach has different color per team.
Game: All players from each team start in the endzone. from both teams. They try to plant their teams pirate flags on all the gold (cones) in the playing area. In order to do that, they must go perform a turn around a cone in middle of grid, return quickly to coach to grab a pinnie, and quickly race back to plant flag (put pinnie on cone). They have to return to start zone (dock) before going after more gold. When all flags are planted, count team with most flags.
Coaching:
- ensure that correct techniques is performed on all turns.
- Remind them how to run with the ball
- as game starts, encourage correct rules (teaches how to follow coaching and instruction)

Setup: Same as above with four different color "masts" (cones). distances between 7 to 10 yds on front and back cones. 3 yds for the middle two cones to make a gate (yellow and white)
Game: This is a turning, running with the ball, passing relay race. Each group has 3 players (or must make 3 passes if a line only has 2).
Relay 1: Start simple with perform an outside hook around the white mast, and then pass before the yellow mast to next player.
Relay 2: Outside hook around white mast, pullback and yellow mast to go back around white mast, then pass back to next player.
Relay 3: Outside hook again, pullback again, now player goes around blue mast with an inside slap cut, and they must perform pass before blue cone.
Relay 4: Add your own sequences
Scoring: First team gets 30, second team gets 25, etc. Play multiple races and add score.
Coaching:
Technical:
- Outside hook "toe up, heel down to cover more surface of the ball, get thigh to front of ball"
- Pullback "Drop shoulder of turning foot and don't leave the ball. Use sole of foot"
- Inside Cut "Whip leg out and around ball. slap it quickly back the other way. use inside. cover most surface"
- Passing "step in and hit. toe up, heel down. follow through with arch and heel. Big toe plant foot at target"

Setup: Large circle big enough for 16. 12 v 4. one pugg in center (or two back to back)
Game: 12 players with a ball and 4 without. Players without a ball are "Pirates" and they are trying to collect the treasure (ball) from other players and put it in the treasure chest (goal). If Pirate wins ball, they take it to goal. If they score, that player becomes a pirate. If the player that lost the ball, regains possession, they continue to play. Play until one or two players left. They are the winners.
Progression: If you want to incorporate turning into passing, have players play on one half of circle with a partner on the other half of the circle. They must always play in their circle, but they can pass to partner after protecting the ball on their half.
Coaching:
- How do you use turns with a defender on you? Timing? Body position?
- Use turns that we practiced earlier to get rid of defender (hook, cut, pull)
- How do we shield player from ball?
- "Scan, plan, play" Can you keep head up to see defender coming and know where to find space?

Pirate Training
Setup:
1/4 of field. Every player with a ball. blue cones - dock
Game:
A sea captain has recruited a fleet of pirates and would like to train them to become the best pirate fleet in all the seas. Pirates will sail around the ocean (blue area) with their ship (soccer ball). The captain (coach) will give the pirates (soccer players) various commands that they must follow. Whenever captain asks, "Pirates are you ready?" they must respond like a pirate, "Aaaaargh!!"
Pirate commands:
- "Avoid other ships" or "stay close" means soft touches, keep close ball control.
- "Fastest ship of the fleet" means take a bigger touch out of feet to go faster.
- "Rats on deck" means perform toe taps.
- "Scrub the deck" means perform boxes.
- "Anchors down" means players stop by placing sole of foot on ball.
- "Report to Dock" means race back to dock and stop ball in zone. Don't be last.
- "Cannon Fire" perform a specific turn to dodge cannonball and quickly move away (i.e. outside hook, pullback, inside hook, step-push back, inside drag, L-turn)
- "Sword fight" knock out someone elses ball (avoid by shielding and turning)
Coaching:
1. Head up to see the big ocean blue and other pirate ships.
2. Close ball control - dribble with pinky toe (i.e. Messi).
3. Go faster - bigger touch with laces (i.e. Ronaldo).
4. Use both feet.
Progressions:
1. Pirates look to destroy other ships by kicking their balls out of the safe ocean. Last pirate left with a ship in the ocean wins!
