Principle of play Week 3
MVP points System
The player MVP system is a staple of the program and one we use to set competition from the start of the session to the finish between each individual
The way the system works every player has 5 MVP points to start, Players can win more points by applying themselves to each activity with full commitment trying their hardest to progress, and being awarded points by the coach
Players can also win points during each activity by scoring the most points for that activity and for that they will pick up 2 MVP points from the coach.
We also use the point system to reinforce good standards like staying in bounds, not bumping into other players, and good behavior. the player can lose their points when these standards are not met. Try to use it as a motivator, not a punishment.
Once the players get used to this system they will become more responsible for their own development

Organization
20x30 grid split into two 15x20 channels
6-8 players per grid
cones set up in diamond shape as shown 8x8x8x8
balls with the end players in both grid
two goals positioned rotationally in the direction of the activity
Instructions
Part 1
have the player see how many goals they can score in a round of 2 mins the goal only counts if the player breaks the line using their
first touch unless a bad pass was played from the server.
Part 2
-add in a defender for both sides that starts on the middle cone as shown
-when the first pass is played the receiver must go 1v1 to goal with the defender to score
-if the defender steels they will transitions back through the line to win the point.
-after a set amount of time change the defenders in the middle.
-after a few rounds change the position of the goals so the players now go the opposite direction using their other foot.

Instructions:
Coaching Points half turn receive the bal on half turn body position
positive touch to the direction you want to go
open you hip to receive the ball
Pull back turn
- Step 1 – place your standing foot next to the ball
- Step 2 – place your other foot on top of the ball (do not step over the ball and use the heel!)
- Step 3 – Pull the ball backwards (maintaining control of the ball)
- Tip – make sure you turn your body the right way. E.g. if your standing foot is your left foot, your right foot is dragging the ball back, then you want to turn with the ball in a clockwise rotation until your facing the opposite direction.
Out side turn- Step 1 – place your standing foot besides the ball (leaving a bit more distance this time between the foot and ball than you did with the drag-back turn.)
- Step 2 – your non-standing foot will pass between the gap of the foot and ball. Young players can stand this foot down just past the ball; older players will be expected to incorporate steps 2 and 3 together.
- Step 3 – twist your standing foot so the outside of the foot is parallel with the ball (right foot would be 2 o’clock, left foot would be facing 10 o’clock.)
- Step 4 - using the outside of the foot, hook the ball in the opposite direction than your currently facing whilst keeping control
- Step 5 – turn your body in the same direction as the ball and face the opposite way.
- Tip – it helps to have a low centre of gravity with knees bent and arms out whilst doing this soccer moves turn.
