Press vs outlet

Essence:

- To work on out-letting and pressing off the defence in a certain area of a pitch in the hopes of creating a turnover.

Structure:

- Set up two goals on the halfway line with space in-between for D and E to run through.

- The coach will feed the ball to either half backs (H). The players in orange need to score at the small goal on the other side of the mid-line to where they start.

- As soon as the ball is played, A, B and C press the defenders and try to keep the ball on one side of the pitch and try to regain possession.

- If A, B or C win the ball, players D & E can join in the attack.

- If orange score the player next to that goal D or E will get a ball and everybody joins for a 5v4 towards the main goal.

Technical Points:

- The green line is imaginary and we want to press to either side of the line.

- Work on staying low, mobile and aggressive to force them to one side.

- Defensively how can we outlet through pressure? pass and move in quick succession.

Three man weave into a 2v1 counter tackle back

Essence:

- To work on an attacking opportunity and how quickly we can tackle back to stop the counter from being played.

Structure:

-Three player's play a three man weave and the player who has the ball once they pass the 25 yard line will take the shot (player in blue signifies one from A,B or C who takes the shot).

- Once the shot has been taken one of the players on the red cone will pass the ball to the baseline and that commences the 2v1. Once the player passes the ball, the player from the three man weave goes and tries to stop the counter.

Technical Pointers:

- How can we set up a counter when a perceived turnover occurs?

- Discuss the movement of the second attacker in the counter, what can they do to aid in a successful counter attack.

Transfer with back 4

Essence:

- To work on transferring the ball and attaining a successful attacking opportunity.

Structure:

- Player A passes to B and A carries run forward to receive ball back and transfer to C.

- C has a choice to pass to either D, E or take the ball forward themselves.

Technical Pointers:

- Make sure the passing around the back is with intensity and purpose.

- When we play the 3v2 the two attackers should be looking to provide plenty of movement and passing options
