Setup:
Diamond with cones 10 yards apart
4 equal lines
Activity:
Player with ball passes right and moves away from ball.
Player opposite of ball closes and presses (don't tackle).
Progression:
+ Passer can pass left or right
Coaching Points:
+ Travel while ball is traveling
+ decelerate as approaching player
+ Force player a certain way
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
15x20 grid (2 grids setup)
3 teams of 2 (if odd numbers rotate in with a team)
extra balls around
Activity:
Team in possession works with neutrals to play 4v2.
Start with general possession, but then keep score where a goal is scored by getting ball from neutral to neutral.
Coaching Points:
+ Defensive players need to work together to make play predictable
+ Allow for sideways or backwards passes - NO penetration
+ Check shoulder when pressing to cut passing angles
Progressions:
+ Add a 3rd defender (either an all time defender or go 3v3)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
Use same grids as before and add goals to endlines
2 teams of 3 + 1 neutral
Activity:
Team in possession tries to score in small goal
Coaching Points:
+ Patience - defense is still outnumbered so must be patient to force attacking team sideways or backwards.
+ Check shoulder to see where pressure should shape play (make predictable)
+ Communication ("Pressure", "push left", "switch")
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
Half field separated into 3 zones
Blue team in 3-2-1 formation (trying to build out)
White team in 2-2-3 (no CB)
Activity:
Blue team must make 3 passes in middle zone before they can attempt to score in target goals. They can either make a long attempt (if defense is pressed up) or 3 players can tranistion into attacking zone to play 4v4.
Defending team attempts to win ball and play into goalie (progress to attacking goal)
Coaching Points
+ Look for cues of when to press: bad touch, facing backwards, receive on wrong foot
+ Forward 3 - force play sideways or backwards
+ Back 4 - Cues of when a long ball might be coming (back up) versus a shorter pass (press)
See the guidance at the top of this page to understand why you are not seeing interactive Football/Soccer images.
Setup:
7v7 as shown above
Balls in goal.
Play 10 minutes then switch sides so each team gets work pressing.
Activity:
GK starts with ball and tries to play out to score in goals at half.
Defensive team presses ball and tries to score on goal.
Coaching Points:
+ Entice short balls and then press
+ Want to push play inside where we have 2 Center Mids
+ Quickly transition to goal when winning ball back in attacking 1/3
+ If win ball deeper, play simple pass and maintain possession
+ If defense is pressing too high, have attackers play long ball into goal (match realistic)
Progression:
+ Start teams higher up field and have Coach serve ball into CB's or over the top and press.
