Session designed to improve individual passing and receiving abilities.
Five Elements of a Training Activity
1. ORGANIZED: Is the activity organized the right way?
2. GAME-LIKE: Is the activity game-like?
3. REPETITION: Is there enough repetition for the players, when looking at the overall goal of the session?
4. CHALLENGING: Are the players being challenged? Is there the right balance between being successful and unsuccessful?
5. COACHING: Is there effective coaching, based on the age and level of the players?
Self-Reflection Questions
1. How did you do in achieving the goals of the training session?
2. What did you do well?
3. What could you do better?

Passing and Receiving (or use Warm-Up #2 as your starting point)
Receive -> Pass -> Move: Players pass ball across to their teammate, then run to the opposite line. Vary distances and start with close-range short passing (5-10 yds.), then open up the field and incorporate long-range passing (greater than 15 yds.)
Coaching Points:
1. Prepare your body to receive the ball: heels off the ground, knees slightly bent
2. Heel up, tow down when receiving
3. Show with the hand and call for the ball where you would like ball to be played
4. Clean first touch leads to a positive second touch
5. Follow your pass and support
Variations:
1. One-touch
2. Two-touch
3. Long-short-long combination (support play)
4. Player receiving adds quick backwards movement behind and around cone before receiving next ball
5. Ball on the ground in one direction, served in the air the opposite way
*Make sure to include elements of a dynamic warm-up with the players (leg swings, hip mobility, high knee tucks, bent-over calf stretch)

Passing and Receiving
Receive -> Pass -> Move: Each pair tries to pass and receive through the gates for points. Have a timed game with each team competing against each other. Have one more gate on the field that your highest number of pairs (i.e. 7 gates for 6 pairs) so there is always a scoring option that the players must find.
-No standing and waiting at a gate for it to open
-Move early and demand the ball, showing where you intend to play next
-Read teammates hips and providing supporting run early
Variations:
1. All players are on the same team trying to score through gates against opponents (start with lower numbers of defenders such as two, and then add for increased difficulty)
2. Keep adding defendings until you have an even-matched game (6v6 for example)
3. Cannot score on the same gate twice in-a-row (must score elsewhere before coming back)
Coaching Points:
1. Prepare your body to receive the ball: heels off the ground, knees slightly bent
2. Heel up, tow down when receiving
3. Show with the hand and call for the ball where you would like ball to be played
4. Clean first touch leads to a positive second touch
5. Follow your pass and support
6. Take looks before receiving the ball

Intentional Free Play (15 mins) (15 mins)
Intentional Free Play
1. Play for 6-7 minutes, then give a quick water break. Before they get a drink, ask them to think about how can we be effective passing and receiving the ball? Answer: Vision, prep the ball before we play it, receive-pass-move, lock ankle and use proper technique, open body position to field, disguise
2. Come back from water break, and let them play another 6-7 minutes
3. End the game and then bring everyone together, asking them the same question: How can we be effective passing and receiving the ball? Answer: Vision, prep the ball before we play it, receive-pass-move, lock ankle and use proper technique, open body position to field, disguise
