Fun Warm Up Game - Collect & Steal! (15 mins)
Description of the Activity:
Four boxes layed out in sequence of a square, positioned into the corners. Dependent on the number of players attending your session, split the group into four seperate teams accordingly. One player at a time using a sprint running action, moves into the centre grid where there are a number of footballs. They collect one using both hands and place it in their designated zone. Once the centre grid has been emptied of all of the footballs, each player remains stationary in their zones until the coach delivers the command 'STEAL!' Subsequently, the players are required to take a football from other zones, during a specific time frame and attempt to exploit unoccupied areas when those players leave to steal from other zones. The team with the most footballs in their zones at the end of the duration, whilst adhering to the rules, finishes victorious!
Progressions/Variations:
- Reduce/Increase the space around the centre grid.
- Incorporate different objects, representing alternative manipulation experiences.
- Introduce point scoring systems for self challenge.
- Differentiated task objectives for advanced level individuals (e.g. memorizing specific demands and recalling pieces of information implicit in the coaches personalized targets).
- Restrict the individuals to a particular form of kinaesthetic manipulation and social interactions (e.g. when entering the centre grid only allowed to use hands or feet & communicative facets that shape the players ability to relay information to their teammates).
Coaching Points:
- Effective Decision Making & Problem Solving Capacities
- ABC's (Agility, Balance & Coordination)
- Reading evolving game play complexions & reacting accordingly.
- Teamwork & Communication
- Devising strategies that meet the main objectives of the session (e.g. collect as many footballs as physically possible and placing them in the zone).
- Spatial Awareness
